Chu Hing Wah’s rich colour selection references the joy found in gathering, the liveliness of the Mid-Autumn Festival, and an atmosphere of pure celebration. The artwork is inspired by the artist's past celebrations with his own family in Yuen Long. The featured scene is intimate and family focused, with children frolicking in the outdoor garden, while both young and old admire the moon together - enjoying mooncakes, homegrown star fruits and persimmons. The simple trees echo the uplifting dynamics contained within the spirit of celebration. Personally, the artist resides rurally, outside the Hong Kong’s developed areas and grows fruits in his own garden. The layers of ink work radiate a heartwarming compassion, expressing the joys of self-sufficiency. They reveal a deep intimacy with the soil, the moon and nature itself.
